What
Veterans Should Not Wear To An Interview
1. Carrying
a backpack of fannypack instead of a briefcase or portfolio: Some image consultants suggests women veterans
ditch their purse too.
2.
Never wear any military uniform or military accouterments.
3. Sunglasses
on top of your head or headphones around neck. Be sure to remove all your “transit gear” and
tuck it in your briefcase before entering lobby.
4. Never
wear your military medals or ribbons of any sort.
5. The wrong
tie: Ties should be made of silk, no less than three and a quarter inches with a conservative pattern.
Image consultants say the best colors are red or burgundy.
6. Heavy
makeup on women (or any makeup on a man).
7. Earrings
on men: In fact, men should avoid wearing any jewelry unless it is a wedding ring, class ring, military
ring, or metal watch.
8. More
than one set or earrings on women.
9. Facial
piercings, tongue jewelry or visible tattoos.
10. Long
fingernails, especially with bright or specialty polishes. Nails should look clean and be trimmed to a
length that doesn’t leave an observer wondering how you keep from stabbing yourself.
11. Unnatural
hair colors or styles. Remember, Donald Trump was a billionaire before he began wearing a comb-over.
If you’re balding, try a close crop cut like Bruce Willis or Matt Lauer.
12. Never
wear a short-lived shirt. This looks worse when worn with a tie.
13. Fishnets,
patterned hosiery or bare legs. Women should stick with neutral color hosieries that compliments their
suit or attire.
14. Men
should never wear socks that don’t match their shoes, or whose socks are too short and leave a gap of flesh when they
are seated.
15. Never
wear rumpled or stained clothing.
16. Never
wear scuffed or inappropriate footwear, including sneakers, stilettos, open-toed shoes and sandals.
17. Never
wear strong aftershave, perfumes or colognes.
18. Never
wear belts and shoes that do not match. Shoes and belts should be made of leather or leather-like material.
19. Never
give away telltale signs that you are wearing a new suit or attire of any sort. Remove all tags and extra
buttons that might give you away.
20. Never
wear ill-fitting clothes. Having your clothes tailored might be worth the investment.
