Description The Director of Veteran Services will report to the Vice President of Marketing
Communications and Enrollment Management. The goal of this position is to increase and support the population of veterans
and their family members in our community through focused recruitment and vigorous student support programs.
The primary responsibilities of this position are to coordinate
academic, local, state and national support programs available for student veterans and their family members on and off campus,
to maintain close cooperation with representatives from the Mayor of Houstons Veterans office and the Office of Veterans Affairs,
to recruit veterans from the military services to the University for undergraduate and graduate programs and to communicate
personally with inquiries and applicants by phone, mail and email.
In addition,
the successful candidate will meet with prospective students and family members during visits to campus, will represent the
university at college day and night programs and other scheduled visits, will assist in developing the Admissions Strategic
Plan by devising and implementing a specific plan for recruiting veterans and identifying targeted geographic territories,
will attend and participate in all on-campus admissions/recruitment functions, will market to veteran populations at college
fairs, transition centers, and local, state veteran organizations, will represent UST as a speaker at UST and community events,
will review and analyze admissions reports and data and will remain current on professional trends and best practices in the
Admissions field. Other duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications - To be considered for this position, candidates must
have a Bachelors Degree
- Military service experience
- Two years professional experience in an education related area preferred
- Further preference will be given to experience in
veteran service programs
- Candidates must possess experience with veterans issues, an understanding of the provisions of the 2008 GI Bill and
knowledge of the educational needs of non-traditional student populations
- The successful candidate should possess excellent communication ability, written
skills and the ability to promote the university to veterans and their families.
